Pine Grove Mills, Pa (2)Pine Grove Mills in Centre County PA is a census designated place located in Ferguson Towship just south of State College PA at the intersection of Route 26 and Route 45. The Pine Grove Mills area was initially purchased in 1791 by Thomas Ferguson who is also credited with the founding of Pine Grove Mills. Mills created by the damming of Slab Run Creek in 1800 lead to the name Pine Grove Mills.

The town of Pine Grove Mills was laid out during the 1800s by Centre Furnace Ironmaster Colonel John Patton and was known breifly as Pattonville. The Pine Grove Mills Post Office was founded in 1809 resulting in a return to the Pine Grove Mills naming for the entire town area.

Pine Grove Mills, Pa (4)As of the 2010 US Census Pine Grove Mills was home to 1,502 people and many businesses, including the towns tavern, dairy store and elementary school. Pine Grove Mills is located at the base of a scenic overlook on Route 26 which provides stunning views of the State College PA area.
