Borough of Milesburg in Centre County PA

milesburgThe borough of Milesburg PA in Centre County is located at the intersection of State Routes 144 and 150 about 2 miles north of Bellefonte PA. Initially surveyed in 1793 at the direction of Colonel Samuel Miles of Philadelphia, Milesburg was the site of an Indian Village known as Bald Eagles Nest. The first known settler of the Milesburg area was Andrew Boggs but the borough draws its name from Colonel Samuel Miles who was also part owner of the Centre Furnace Iron Works.

In 1797 the first Centre County Post Office was established in Milesburg and then during the 1800’s the Erie turnpike and the Bald Eagle Canal were both constructed and opened in Milesburg. Milesburg was officially established as a Pennsylvania borough on March 3, 1843.

milesburgpostToday Milesburg contains .4 square miles of land and is governed my a seven member council and mayor. Milesburg Borough Offices are located at 416 Front Street Milesburg, PA 16853. Phone - (814) 355-3583. Office hours by appointment and Borough meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. According to the 2010 US Census Milesburg PA was home to 1125 people.
