Historic Cypress Lodge, Martin County FL

The Historic Cypress Lodge is a two story wood framed building located at 18681 SW Conners Highway in Port Mayaca. The Cypress Lodge was built in Martin County in the late 1930's during efforts to develop Port Mayaca.

The lodge was initially owned by Bessemer properties at the direction of Isacc Matthe Elkins, listed in the National Register as the buildings architect, engineer or builder. The Cypress Lodge was operated as a local tavern and hotel by Paul Hoensel and his wife, Amy. Paul is credited with the initial survey of the Port Mayaca area which was done for the Phipps family.

This Martin County historic landmark is not currently open to the public, but may be viewed from public lands. The structure is currently a privately owned property, so please be respectful if you choose to have a look at this historic site.

The Cypress Lodge was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 2008.
