Charlotte County, Florida

charlotteflCharlotte County is located along the western coast of Florida bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Established in 1921 Charlotte County was named for the Bay of Charlotte Harbor which was named in honor of English Queen Charlotte Sophia. The county seat of Charlotte County, Punta Gorda is also the only incorporated city within Charlotte County.

Charlotte County includes a total of 858 square miles, of which 178 is water. At the 2010 US Census Charlotte County had a total population of 159,978 persons.

Charlotte County is bordered by Sarasota County and Desoto County to the north, Highlands County to the northeast, Glades County to the east, Hendry County to the southeast and Lee County to the south.
